Jewelry Care Guide for Charlie Jean Jewelry

At Charlie Jean Jewelry, we want your pieces to shine for as long as possible. Here’s how to care for them:

General Care
To keep your jewelry in its best condition, avoid exposure to water, perfumes, lotions, hair products, and household chemicals. Always remove jewelry before swimming, showering, exercising, or cleaning. Keep your pieces dry and store them in a cool, dark place, ideally in a soft pouch or lined jewelry box to prevent tarnishing and scratching.

Understanding Metals & Materials

  • Gold-Filled: Gold-filled jewelry is made by bonding a thick layer of gold (at least 5% of the item's total weight) to a base metal. It’s durable, tarnish-resistant, and suitable for sensitive skin. Unlike gold plating, gold-filled pieces do not wear off easily.
  • Gold-Plated: Gold-plated jewelry is made by applying a thin layer of gold over a base metal. It has a beautiful finish but is more prone to wear over time. Extra care should be taken to keep it dry and away from harsh chemicals.
  • Sterling Silver: Sterling silver is 92.5% silver, with the remaining 7.5% being other metals to increase durability. It can tarnish over time but is easy to clean with a silver polishing cloth.
  • Vermeil: Vermeil is a type of gold plating over sterling silver, offering a higher-quality finish than standard gold-plated items.

Caring for Your Jewelry

  • Gold-Filled & Sterling Silver: These metals can withstand some exposure to water but may dull over time. Use a soft cloth to clean after wearing and store them in a dry, airtight container to avoid tarnishing.
  • Gold-Plated Jewelry: Keep gold-plated items away from water, lotions, and perfumes. Gently clean with a soft cloth and avoid harsh jewelry cleaners or chemicals, as these can wear down the plating.

Storing Your Jewelry

Proper storage is key to maintaining your jewelry's longevity. Store pieces separately to avoid scratching, and keep them in a cool, dry place away from light and moisture. This will help prevent tarnishing and keep your jewelry looking its best.

Please Note:
Every person’s skin may react differently to metals based on their unique body chemistry. We are not responsible for any reactions to materials, but taking care of your jewelry as recommended will help prolong its beauty.
